About the project
At GoSmile Uganda we believe that social business in all its many forms is one of the most important ways of improving the world that we live in. we therefore use entrepreneurial principals to organize, mobilize and manage our projects that have a social mission at its core and the goals of creating both economic and social value of which goHoney is no exception
goHoney - a business for a social purpose
goHoney initiative focuses on conservation of wildlife protected areas and sustainable beekeeping to combat poverty, build sustainable and resilient livelihoods.
Our purpose is to empower the rural poor to do beekeeping in order to produce and sell as much honey as possible. Beekeeping is a means to diversify livelihoods and make the best use of resources available to the families that we work with. A diversified livelihood is a more secure one.
We support beekeepers to maintain environments that are good for bees, for biodiversity, and for people. We encourage farmers to make simple, low-cost beehives so that more people can harvest and sell honey, turning natural resources into sustainable livelihoods with great benefit for the wider environment.
Beekeeping with coffee farming
Keeping bees in coffee farms can increase better yields of big coffee beans due to pollination. We are helping the rural poor farmers to integrate beekeeping with coffee farming - to give the double benefit of honey to sell and increase coffee yields. We are training coffee farmers in bee keeping and helping them get started. We are also working and encouraging coffee farmers with little land of their own to do land and crop sharing with beekeepers. This involves comprehensive training program, with follow up support.
How to donate
Donate now and we will provide vital support to alleviate poverty and to sustain bee populations as well as protecting the environment.
What we do has such a positive impact on people's lives. A regular donation helps us to plan our work more effectively, meaning we can achieve long-lasting positive change for the rural poor communities.
“Needing to become more entrepreneurial in our approach and becoming more socially conscious in the way we do business at goHoney is empowerment and sustainability at its finest for the communities we support” - Moses Kiiza/ Founder, GoSmile Uganda
